Two official sources say the same thing in different words. The park page: “Cell phone coverage is limited. Don’t hike alone and tell others of your plans.” The Sept 2026 brochure: “Cell phone service is unreliable. If you become lost, stay in one location and wait for help.”
Before you lose signal
- Download or print the park trail map.
- Read current conditions in town, while you still have data.
- Tell someone which trail you are on and when you will be back.
- Save the park phone number: 435-628-2255. In an emergency, call 911 if you can get through.
Safety basics from the park

- Hike together. The brochure says it can be unsafe to hike alone.
- Stay on marked, designated trails and check your map often.
- If you are lost, stay in one place and wait for help.
- Carry a hat, sunscreen, sturdy shoes, the trail map, water, snacks, a first aid kit, a flashlight, and a safety whistle (the brochure’s “Be Prepared” list).
- Scramble and climb only in designated areas. The park says inexperienced visitors are seriously injured every year on steep, loose rock.
Satellite messengers as gear
A satellite messenger or personal locator beacon can send a message or SOS where phones cannot. The park does not tell you to buy one, and it is not a substitute for the basics above. If you carry one, learn it at home, check whether the maker requires a subscription, and test it before the trip. We have not picked or linked a specific model yet. When we do, the link will be disclosed as an affiliate link.
